Welcome to AWSN

Homepage

AWSN’s primary focus is to connect, unite, support and promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs throughout the province.

As a network, AWSN creates a collaborative environment where member groups and volunteers help each other, learning from each others’ experiences, successes and challenges. Along with our long-term volunteers, we have been fortunate this year to gain many new creative minds, who are lending their time and expertise across the board and our various committees. AWSN activities focus on supporting host programs through funding, in-kind support and volunteer resource connections. We categorized these activities under three core pillars: Recruitment, Retention and Recognition.

WinSTEM Week

WinSTEM Week, organized by AWSN (Alberta Women’s Science Network), is an annual, province-wide initiative dedicated to increasing the visibility, recognition, and engagement of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) across Alberta.

Held around Ada Lovelace Day, WinSTEM Week celebrates achievement, fosters mentorship, and empowers the next generation of STEM leaders. One of the key highlights of the week is the Athena and Minerva Awards, which honour the outstanding contributions of women in STEM at various career stages. Through a wide range of community-driven events, including STEM outreach activities, panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities.

WinSTEM Week amplifies the voices of women and promotes inclusivity and accessibility in STEM fields. WinSTEM Week is now officially recognized in perpetuity by the Government of Alberta. WinSTEM Week is here to stay!
