Brielle Lillywhite, 2020 AWSN Scholarship Recipient

Brielle is a third year Chemical Engineering student, minoring in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Calgary. She aims to act with integrity to maintain ethical practice and honest communication; agility to adapt to change; accountability to take responsibility for her actions; entrepreneurship to create innovative new developments that are sustainable; and be caring to team members, the community, and the environment. Currently, she dedicates her time to Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) as the President and previous Volunteer Coordinator and Junior Finance Executive, Taking Strides Calgary as the Director of Rhythm and Strength, and founder of the club Go Baby Go (GBG) and previous Project Manager for the GBG project within Project90. One of Brielle’s greatest initiatives throughout the past two years is the development of a letter-writing program through WISE, collaborating with the Building Hope Society (BHS) in Kenya, Africa. The Building Hope Society is a Canadian charity, created to provide advanced educational opportunities to children who do not have access to quality education. Her goal is to empower the children to pursue education, specifically for the girls who lack opportunity in a male dominant society. She believes that it is up to a community of women in a minority field of study to pave the path of strong female leaders.
