Haniya Ahmed, 2021 AWSN Scholarship Recipient

Haniya Ahmed is an honoured recipient of the AWSN Scholarship Program. As a 19-year old, Muslim, South Asian woman majoring in software engineering and minoring in biomedical engineering, Haniya is highly motivated to break barriers as a minority in not only the STEM field, but in her community as a whole. From a young age, she has been highly intrigued in the assembling of devices, learning the intricacies of their functions, and fostering further logical probing. This has developed into her strong passion to make a difference in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and various fields of medicine. In her aim of excelling in her profession and disrupting the STEM field as a whole, Haniya hopes to become a means of representation and a source of empowerment for young girls who come from similar backgrounds. When not pursuing these passions, Haniya can be found with lost between the pages of a good book, making her way to a long and fulfilling hike, or locked in the pantry trying to satisfy her unquenchable sweet-tooth.
